Event Preview
All eyes will be on the final golf major of 2026 this weekend, as the Women’s Open gets underway on Thursday. The action will be staged at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, which will see the field compete across 6,585 yards at the par 72 course. A total purse of $10 million will be up for grabs.
It will be the sixth time that the course has hosted the Women’s Open, and the first since Georgia Hall’s win in 2018. Nelly Korda will be a leading contender this weekend after winning two major titles already in 2026. However, a return to form will be required after a disappointing T16 at the recent Scottish Open. Korda’s previous best showing at The Open came in 2024 when finishing T2.
Ryu Hae-Ran has also been a dominant player in majors this season, winning the Women’s PGA Championship and Evian Championship. The 25-year-old finished T21 back in 2023, and has made the cut on all three previous appearances at the Women’s Open.
Miyu Yamashita should be respected after an excellent T5 at last weekend’s Scottish Open. Meanwhile, Charley Hull and Lydia Ko both boast proven records in the biggest events on the LPGA Tour, ensuring that they could be value plays at the odds available.
Women’s Open Picks
At the odds, Lottie Woad could be a very interesting contender worth considering this weekend. The English player finished T37 at the Scottish Open last weekend, and has made the cut in 13 of her 15 starts in 2026. She is already a one-time winner on the Tour in 2026, and she has excelled on both previous starts at the Women’s Open, finishing T10 in 2024 and T8 in 2025.
