One of the key prep events before the start of The Open Championship is set for Scotland this weekend, as the Scottish Open gets underway on July 9. This event provides a final opportunity to gain qualification for The Open, with the event being staged annually since 1972.

Scottie Scheffler will once again be a red-hot favorite for success this weekend. The top-ranked player in the FedEx Cup rankings was last seen finishing a solo second at the Travelers Championship, continuing his remarkable level of consistency on the Tour in 2026.

Rory McIlroy’s form has dipped in recent weeks, but the Masters champion’s excellent record at the course should be respected, previously winning the Scottish Open in 2023. Has also achieved top-five finishes on two further trips.

Wyndham Clark could be one of the overpriced selections this weekend. The American has been in elite form, winning The CJ Cup and U.S. Open. Has also finished in the top 25 on four previous trips to the Scottish course.

Chris Gotterup should be respected as the defending champion after a dominant win 12 months ago. Tommy Fleetwood is also playing at a consistently high level, finishing in the top 15 in 14 of his 14 starts in 2026.
