The final major of the 2026 golf season gets underway on July 16, with Royal Birkdale hosting the British Open Championship. A competitive weekend awaits the world’s best players, with the grueling course likely to see a low-scoring event. But, who are some of the most interesting players to consider when assessing the British Open cut picks.

British Open: Players to Make The Cut Picks

Ben Griffin

American player Ben Griffin looks like an interesting angle when making players to make the cut picks. Griffin has finished in the money in 16 of his 20 appearances this season, which includes nine top-25 finishes on the PGA Tour.

The American has made the cut on his last three appearances, and his form is rock solid after claiming T21, T10, and T17 finishes at the John Deere Classic, Travelers Championship, and U.S. Open. The 30-year-old will need to overcome a poor recent record at the Open, having failed to make the cut in all three appearances. However, he has finished in the top 20 in four of the last six majors.

Sahith Theegala

Another American player to consider when making to make the cut picks at the British Open this weekend is Sahith Theegala. He has made the cut in 20 of his 21 starts this season, and he has already racked up an impressive nine finishes in the top-25 on the PGA Tour.

A T11 at the U.S. Open is a sign of his prowess in majors, and he would have benefited from having links experience at the Scottish Open last weekend, despite finishing T66. Theegala has failed to make the cut in the last three editions of the British Open since a career-best T34 in 2022. However, his overall record at majors is eye-catching, making the weekend in ten of his 15 appearances.

Sahith Theegala (+180)

Matthew Southgate

Englishman Matthew Southgate could be one of the value picks to make the cut at the British Open this weekend. Southgate is already a winner on the DP World Tour this season, having landed the Swiss Challenge in June.

Since then, he has failed to make the cut in his last two starts. However, a return to a links course should suit him well, and his record at Royal Birkdale is impressive. Southgate’s previous best showing at a major came at the course in 2017 when finishing an excellent T6, and just eight shots off the runaway leader.

Matthew Southgate (+200)
