Event Preview
The oldest race on the Formula 1 schedule is set for this weekend, as Silverstone hosts the historic British Grand Prix. This race was first held back in 1926, and the field will complete a total distance of 306.198 km this weekend, made up of 52 laps.
All eyes will be on the battle between the Mercedes drivers in the championship battle, with George Russell bouncing back to form with a victory in Austria last weekend. However, the Brit still trails Kimi Antonelli by 40 points. Antonelli also bounced back from a 16th place finish in Barcelona last weekend with a win in Austria.
Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri also showed excellent pace in Austria, with the former closing the gap on Russell with every lap before the conclusion at the Red Bull Ring last time out.
However, the biggest threat to Mercedes this weekend is likely to come in the form of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins at Silverstone, and confidence levels will be high after winning his first race with the team in Barcelona. In the other Ferrari, Charles Leclerc will need a change of fortunes, finishing outside of the points in two of the last three rounds.
British Grand Prix Picks
Ferrari bring further upgrades to Silverstone this weekend, and the circuit should play to the strengths of Hamilton. The British driver’s form has been red-hot this season, and his record at the track shouldn’t be overlooked. Therefore, we foresee Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix to firmly enter Championship contention.
