The Wake Forest at Wisconsin matchup as part of the Big Ten / ACC Challenge could be a good one considering both teams have just one loss on the young season. The Demon Deacons’ (6-1) only loss of the season came against Loyola Marymount in the final of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic 77-75 in OT while the Badgers (5-1) only defeat was in the Battle 4 Atlantis, almost pulling off a stunner in a 69-68 loss to then #3 Kansas.

Wake Forest came back from the holiday tournament circuit with a couple of glorified practices, beating South Carolina State 105-74 and most recently taking down 97-70 on Saturday. The Demon Deacons were favored by 20+ points in each of those two games, but they did get a triple-double from Cameron Hildreth vs. Hampton as he posted 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
One thing about Tuesday’s matchup in Madison is that this will be Wake’s first true road game of the season. The Badgers have played their usual slow tempo and gritty defense this season, ranking 9th in the country allowing just 54.0 ppg. Wake Forest has averaged 81.7 ppg this season, but that’s also with a strength of schedule that ranks 215th in the country – Wisconsin’s is 27th.
Four of the Badgers’ six games this season have been played on a neutral court so you have to admire their willingness to schedule meaningful games early in the season. Wisconsin probably could have used an easier start to the season since they lost last year’s leading scorer Johnny Davis (20.0 ppg) to the #10 pick in the NBA draft as well as Brad Davison (14.2 ppg) who provided invaluable experience as a 5th year Senior PG.

Wisconsin’s 5-1 start is even more impressive considering who they’re trying to replace this year and that their one defeat came at the last second against a team that was #3 in the nation at the time.
