The footballing world is still unsure surrounding how this campaign may finally reach its conclusion, but UEFA could hold the key to the potential plans. The European governing body are due to meet on Tuesday afternoon, and a development could be made. UEFA will likely issue a statement after the meeting, where they will give an update to the potential plans for the Champions League and Europa League moving forward.

All 55 national associations will be included on the video call, with all but one of the domestic leagues in Europe suspended. The only competition that is still currently ongoing is the Belarusian Premier League. However, the remaining associations each have different stances on when they believe the football season could resume in their respective countries. The Premier League have admitted that June is the most likely date, while the Bundesliga are hopeful of returning to action next month.

UEFA Looking Into Possibilities For Champions League & Europa League

UEFA have constantly stated that they are looking into every possible avenue to complete their two biggest club competitions. However, that proves difficult with the situation in every country being different. The Europa League fixtures were the last of any kind in Europe, while the Champions League still has one round of 32 fixtures to play. There are a number of plans that are being discussed, with reports also indicating that the Champions League final could be played at the end of August.

The governing body are also believed to looking into the prospect of having one-legged fixtures to minimise the risk of contamination by travelling more. That could begin at the quarterfinal stages, with the semi-finals and final then both played in the same city as the respective finals. That would seem like a plan that most clubs could agree to, but there will also be more issues addressed by UEFA than just these two competitions.

UEFA will also be reportedly talking about the Women’s European Championships. That competition was due to take place next year, but with the European Championships now pushed back until 2021, the women’s competition could also be delayed. Financial regulations will also be discussed, while the governing body may also allow associations to end their seasons early.

Could We Learn Anything New From UEFA On Tuesday?

In truth, fans may not learn anything especially new. UEFA will still not be putting an exact date on the Champions League or Europa League finals, and they won’t be revealing when action could be taking place again either. However, the governing body could reveal the time-frame that they are working in, and the possible route that they could be taking.

It is unlikely that the competitions will now be completed in June, which means that they may have to announce that August is the most likely date for the final. UEFA will be meeting again over the next couple of weeks, which means further developments are likely for soccer fans around the world.
