The New York Yankees and New York Mets will take center stage on Sunday night as they wrap up their three game series. The two rivals have split the first two games of this series, but the Yankees lead the season series, 3-2. Sunday night’s game features an excellent pitching matchup.

The Yankees continue to trail the Boston Red Sox in the American League East, but are well ahead in the AL Wild Card race. The Mets sit in last place in the National League East, and don’t appear to have much chance to reach the playoffs this season. The New York Yankees are -160 over the New York Mets on Sunday.

DeGrom Needs Run Support

Mets ace, Jacob DeGrom, has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, but has just a 5-4 record to show for it. The Mets have not been providing DeGrom will run support in his starts, and the hard throwing righty has several no decisions. DeGrom has a sparkling 1.68 earned run average, but will have to deal with a tough Yankees lineup on Sunday night.

Asdrubal Cabrera has done his best to lead the Mets offense, but hasn’t gotten much help. Cabrera has belted 17 home runs this season, and has driven in a team high 53 runs for the Mets. The Mets have struggled with injuries this year, most notably Todd Frazier and Yoenis Cespedes. The Mets will need to score runs to keep up with the Yankees on Sunday.

Yankees Offense Continues To Mash

The All-Star break did not slow down the red-hot Yankees offense. New York has opened the second half of the season by scoring a combined 12 runs in the first two games of the series. Second year player, Aaron Judge, continues to prove his strength. The slugger has clubbed 26 homers this season to go along with a team high 61 runs.

Masahiro Tanaka will start for the Yankees in the series finale on Sunday. The veteran right hander from Japan continues to be one of the top pitchers for the Yankees. Tanaka is 7-2 this season, but does have a relatively high ERA of 4.54. If Tanaka can give the Yankees a solid six innings, their dominant bullpen should be able to do the rest.

Yanks Take Series Finale

The Mets have battled the Yankees tough this weekend, and will send their best pitcher to the mound on Sunday night. Jacob DeGrom has done his job all season long for the Mets, but needs some help from his offense. The Yankees will be a big test for DeGrom, but he should be able to keep the game close for the Mets.

The Yankees are trying to chase down the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, and they continue to do it with the long ball. The Yankees have blasted an MLB high, 161 homers this season, and they do it from every spot in the batting order. Look for the Yankees to outlast DeGrom, and find a way to score enough runs to win the series finale. Take the New York Yankees -160 over the New York Mets on Sunday Night Baseball.
