The race for a qualifying spot for EURO 2024 kicks off this week, as some of the biggest nations will be looking to make early in-roads into achieving their goal. One of the standout fixtures on Saturday comes from La Rosaleda, as Spain look to get their Group A campaign off to the perfect start when they play host to Norway.

Before Betting On Spain vs Norway

A new era begins for the Spanish national side on Saturday, as Luis de la Fuente takes control of the team for the first time. The incoming coach replaces Luis Enrique, who parted ways with the national team after their disappointing end at the World Cup.

Spain emerged as one of the leading contenders to win the World Cup after a dominant 7-0 opening night win against Costa Rica, but their challenge petered away after a draw against Germany and loss against Japan. They were then dumped out of the competition in Qatar with a penalty shootout loss against Morocco. However, the Spanish remain the dominant side in the betting to easily qualify for the EUROs, as the major tournament is a competition that they have won on three previous occasions. They have also lost just once in 28 previous EURO qualifiers.

This is rightly considered to be the golden age of soccer in Norway, as they boast quality across the field. However, they come into their opening two qualifying matches without Erling Haaland, with the Manchester City striker pulling out of contention earlier this week throughout injury.

Norway has managed to qualify for the EUROs on just one previous occasion, but they were dumped out at the group stage at EURO 2000. Their overall form last year was strong, as they lost just twice in ten internationals, and they come into this after a win against the Republic of Ireland in November.

Haaland’s absence makes this a slightly easier betting matchup, as we struggle to see anything other than a victory for Spain on home soil. We could also see them covering the -1 spread on Saturday.
