The first big clash between two heavyweight nations at the World Cup this year will take place on Sunday evening, as Germany and Spain lock horns in Group E. Spain were winners in their opening fixture, but Germany will need a victory to keep their hopes of progression alive.

Before Betting On Spain vs Germany

This is the game that many fans have been looking forward to since the World Cup group stage draw was made. Both nations are heavily expected to qualify for the next round, but the chances of Germany of achieving that feat has already been taken out of their hands. Germany were shockingly beaten in their opening group stage fixture, as they let a 1-0 lead slip against Japan.

That defeat in the opening fixture means that there is no room for error on Sunday, as a second consecutive loss could leave them exiting the competition at the group stage for the second straight World Cup.

It was far simpler for Spain in their opening fixture, as they produced one of the most dominant performances that we have seen at the World Cup this year. The Spanish were excellent 7-0 winners against Costa Rica, with Ferran Torres scoring a brace in that game.

Other goals in the victory were added by Gavi, Carlos Soler, Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, and Dani Olmo. Furthermore, Spain didn’t allow Costa Rica to have a single shot. Spain won the previous meeting between the nations at the World Cup in 2010. That win was achieved on their way to winning the tournament. Meanwhile, Germany has won just once in their previous seven fixtures against Spain.

This is a huge fixture for Germany, but we will also learn more about Spain. However, the Spanish looked excellent in their opening fixture, and they could be set to go far in the competition this year. Therefore, we can see Spain winning, but it will be a tighter fixture than their opening match.
