It seems like there’s not end in sight for the drama surrounding Antonio Brown who will likely be suspended by the Raiders.

Raiders to Suspend Antonio Brown After Fight with GM

A fight between Antonio Brown and Mike Mayock has let the Oakland Raiders to suspend Antonio Brown. This is just another chapter in the madness that has been Antonio Brown’s career over the last two years. As one of the best wide receivers in NFL history, Brown seems to make more news off the field than he does on it.

It’s become a sad state of affairs that Brown can’t just play football. It’s unclear what is driving this behavior but whatever it is, it wasn’t the Steelers fault. Even though Brown has yet to play a game for the Raiders, the Steelers already look like they’ve won this trade. The details of the incident that led the Raiders to suspend Antonio Brown are unclear. They haven’t even officially suspended him yet but the incident is already public knowledge so it seems like they will have to follow through.

Antonio’s Brown’s Offseason Has Been all Drama

For the Raiders to suspend Antonio Brown a few days before the regular season, they must be thinking about the long term consequences. This incident will likely see his stay in a Raiders uniform be a short one. He is obviously a sensitive guy who has a history of holding grudges. If he did indeed disrespect Mike Mayock which it appears he did, there is no other choice but for the Raiders to suspend Antonio Brown.

Although it may seem detrimental to the team, Mayock can’t afford a situation where disrespect for authority goes unpunished. This is still a young team trying to build a culture which is why bringing in a guy like Brown always had the potential to go sideways.

This Situation Is Likely to Get Worse

Before we get into how Brown’s behavior might get worse after this incident, we need to take a look at the Raiders. In terms of their season outlook, they are unlikely to make the playoffs. They are in the same division as the Chargers and Chiefs who are two of the 10 best teams in the league. They also have a quarterback that has been wildly inconsistent for several years now.

When Antonio Brown was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, they were considered perennial contenders and he was still unhappy. How do the Raiders think he will react to being in a losing situation? Even before things got to the point where the decision was made for the Raiders to suspended Antonio Brown, there were a lot of ways this trade could go bad. If anything this incident is only speeding up the process.

Both Brown and the Raiders Lose in This Situation

At this point, we will need to wait to see how long the suspension will be before we speculate on it’s long terms effects. What we do know is that Brown is not happy and it may just be deeper than football. He clearly has personal issues that he’s working through and if he doesn’t get his life together, he is in danger of not having a job. There are other examples of very talented players in the past that were unable to find a team because of their attitude issues.

Brown is still in his prime so he isn’t at that point yet. But how many more incidents can he have before the league has a whole says enough is enough? This is going to be a long season for the Oakland Raiders and their fans.
