Portugal will be looking for a second straight victory at the World Cup on Monday, as they take on Uruguay. It will be rematch between the nations that played in the round of 16 four years ago, and Uruguay will be looking for a similar outcome.

Before Betting On Portugal vs Uruguay

Portugal could certainly benefit from being one of the nations that many have chosen to ignore when it comes to potential winners of the tournament, as they could easily go deep in this tournament while going under the radar. The Portuguese were excellent in the final third in their opening match against Ghana, as they scored three goals in the final 20 minutes.

Not for the first time, Cristiano Ronaldo made the headlines, as he set a new record of scoring in five different World Cups. The Portuguese captain opened the scoring from the spot, before further efforts were added by Joao Felix and Rafael Leao. However, it was the performance of Bruno Fernandes that was most impressive, as the Manchester United ace recorded two assists.

It wasn’t such an impressive display in the final third by Uruguay in their opening fixture. The South American side looked sluggish when attacking against South Korea, and that was evident in the fact that they managed just a single shot on target in their opening match.

However, Edinson Cavani’s recall is likely to inject something different into the forward line, and the South American side is likely to drop Luis Suarez to the bench after the former Barcelona striker looked extremely slow throughout that opening fixture.

Portugal’s record against South American opposition leaves a lot to be desired, as they have picked up just a single victory in their previous five fixtures. However, the Portuguese looked sharp in the final third, and that could be telling against an aging Uruguayan backline. A decent prop selection could come in the form of a Bruno Fernandes assist, which is available at +300 with BetOnline.
