Tottenham Hotspurs’ management officially fired Mauricio Pochettino this Tuesday. What was speculated over the recent few weeks happened during the international break, when nobody expected.
Instead of doing that immediately after the most recent slip against Sheffield United at home, Tottenham’s bosses had different plans. Whether it was some new problem that occurred and damaged the already bad chemistry among the team, or the board made some maneuver in order to reduce the negative publicity, the result is the same – Tottenham is without a coach. This instantly created room for lots of speculations.
Who Will Replace Poch?
The list of potential names is long, but just a few of them fit this role. The biggest name is, of course, Jose Mourinho, who is currently without a club.
The Portuguese manager is believed to be excellent for Tottenham, as his style and philosophy of game suits perfectly for this group of players. Tottenham has fantastic, pacey players who are exceptional in transition, which is in fact, Mourinho’s biggest weapon along with a tough defense. Plus for the Special One would be his previous experience in the Premier League and the fact that he knows how to behave in a specific environment which surrounds the English football.
The next name on the list is Rafa Benitez. The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle manager is leading Dalian Yifang in the Chinese league, but according to several sources, he is very keen on coming back to the island. Although the Chinese club gave him an unreal contract making him one of the most, if not the most paid managers in the world, he misses the excitement of the Premiership football. Benitez has a similar style of play as Mourinho, and he, too, would be an ideal fit for the managerial position.
Some sources are saying that Massimiliano Alegri is also a desire of David Levy, Spurs’ owner. The former Juventus manager is out of work since the end of the previous season, and negotiations with the above-mentioned two fail, the Italian would be there to jump in.
What is next for Pochettino?
Be sure that the Argentinian won’t be without a job for too long. He created Tottenham the way we know it now, and over the previous five years in charge, Poch raised the club from North London to the group of elite European teams.
After receiving news about his departure, Pochettino became wealthier for £12.5 million. That is according to the contract clause. Along with Poch, his entire staff will also leave Tottenham.
After Bayern Munich released Niko Kovac, the first name which emerged as the potential replacement was Pochettino’s. The German powerhouse is keen on landing the Argentinian, who could be an excellent cornerstone for the rebuilt of the squad. Bayern is currently in the reconstruction process, which by the way, isn’t going according to the plan. That is why the board wants Poch, who knows how to create and develop a team, and also post good results.
In both cases, everything will be much more precise over the next few days.
