Before Betting on Padres vs Diamondbacks Sept 15

The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to avoid the sweep by beating the Dodgers 5-3 on Wednesday in 10 innings. L.A. really doesn’t have anything left to play for though, clinching a playoff berth on Monday and then the NL West on Tuesday. It’s a very different situation when the San Diego Padres come to town on Thursday night to begin a 4-game series.

Unlike the Dodgers, San Diego needs wins right now as they try to stave off the Brewers for the NL’s final wild card spot. The Padres were able to take two of three from Arizona last week and while series wins are nice, it would be extra special to get the brooms out for this four game set. That’s definitely possible in the Padres vs Diamondbacks weekend as San Diego holds an 11-4 edge in the season series.

Sean Manaea (7-8, 5.23 ERA) will try to get the series off on the right track for San Diego, but that’s iffy. His last start was a 4.1 IP, 8ER performance against the Dodgers which was preceded by allowing 6ER over 4.0 IP to the Royals. Bob Melvin actually gave the left-hander an inning of relief on Saturday just to try and help him get right.

Arizona looks for a second straight win against an NL West foe and they’ll do it with Drey Jameson making his MLB debut. Jameson is the #9 prospect in the D’Backs organization but was just 4-12 with a 6.95 ERA in Triple-A this season.

It’s not ideal to face the likes of Juan Soto and Manny Machado in your MLB debut but that’s what Jameson is up against on Thursday night. With Manaea struggling for San Diego it seems like playing the ‘over’ is the way to go in this one.
