Before Betting on Nationals vs Cubs Aug 9

The Chicago Cubs are on a good stretch at Wrigley Field, winners of three of four on their current home stand. That includes a 6-3 victory on Monday night fueled by Nelson Velazquez and Christopher Morel combining to 5-8 with 2 HRs. Chicago has a great chance to make it two in a row in the Nationals vs Cubs Aug 9 matchup considering Washington has now dropped six in a row.

The Cubs are hefty favorites on Tuesday night with Marcus Stroman (3-5, 4.00 ERA) pitching well since the All-Star break. Stroman has allowed 4ER in 18.2 IP since the break and had a 0.89 ERA in four starts during July. The right-hander is still looking for his first home win however (0-3, 7.94 ERA).

The Nationals offense couldn’t get much going against Chicago starter Keegan Thompson (6.0 IP, 1 ER) with a Luke Voit HR accounting for their only score. Joey Meneses added a 2-run HR in the 8th but Washington was already down too much to come back.

Paolo Espino (0-4, 4.20 ERA) has had two rough starts in a row, giving up 5ER over 4.0 IP to the Phillies last time out and 4ER across 4.2 IP the outing prior against St. Louis. The Nationals have lost five of his last seven starts.

The Cubs offense was clicking on Monday night as the North Siders rattled off their sixth win in the last seven at Wrigley Field. Chicago has won 8 of their last 11 against RH starters and have to be the play in game two especially with Stroman dialed in.
