The old adage used to be that a postseason series in sports doesn’t start until the home team loses a game. The first round Golden Knights vs Stars matchup is proving just the opposite, as the road team has won all four games so far. It’s been a fairly profitable series for bettors taking the visitors, but will that trend keep up as the action moves back to Dallas for Game 5?

Before Betting on May 1 Golden Knights vs Stars

The Stars looked doomed after falling 4-3 and 3-1 in Games 1 and 2, but they’ve totally redeemed themselves with a 3-2 and a 4-2 win in Las Vegas to even up the series 2-2. Dallas was 26-11-4 at home this season, so in theory they should have the advantage on Wednesday night.

Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger has turned things around, giving up just two goals in each of the last three games. The Stars were a top 10 team in nearly every major defensive category during the regular season which means Game 5 could be low scoring especially as the teams become more familiar with each other as the series progresses.

Another reason that Wednesday night’s meeting could be on the lower scoring side is because Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson is fourth in the NHL this postseason with a .921 save percentage. The problem with the Golden Knights defense is that they’re giving up a ton of shots on goal, with Thompson facing 77 shots combined in Games 3 and 4.

May 1 Golden Knights vs Stars Prediction & Pick

You have to wonder where the Golden Knights’ psyche is at heading into Game 5 after losing a commanding series lead with two defeats on their own ice. That being said, the trends say the road team has the advantage – but the Stars also have momentum coming back home. The best approach for this one is stellar play by the goaltenders, especially when a couple of the offshore books have the total up to 6.
