For the second time this week, Chelsea and Manchester City will square off. However, the meeting this weekend will take place in the FA Cup, as one of the English heavyweights will leave the competition at the third round. But, will it be Manchester City or Chelsea that progress through to the fourth round?

Before Betting On Man City vs Chelsea

There will be pressure on both Manchester City and Chelsea at the Etihad on Sunday, but only one of the elite clubs will be able to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup this season. Both have enjoyed esteemed success in the competition throughout their modern history, but the run will come to an end for one of England’s big hitters in the third round.

This will be the eighth time that the clubs have squared off in the FA Cup, with City holding the slender advantage of having won on four occasions. Furthermore, City have picked up victories in both of the previous two meetings. The latest of those came in the 2020-21 season, as Pep Guardiola’s side came out 1-0 winners in the semi-final.

The Etihad hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Chelsea in general, as they have been beaten in five of their previous six visits. Their only victory over that period came back in May 2021, as the Blues secured a 2-1 win on the road under Thomas Tuchel.

Interestingly, this will be the second time that the clubs have clashed in a domestic cup competition this season. City were the winners earlier in the campaign, as they landed a 2-0 win in the EFL Cup. It could also be the second season running that Chelsea are knocked out of both domestic cup competitions by the same team.

However, Chelsea’s record at this stage of the FA Cup is staggering. They have managed to reach the fourth round of the competition in each of the previous 24 seasons, which is a joint-record alongside Manchester United.

This should be an entertaining FA Cup tie at the Etihad on Sunday. However, given City’s dominant home record against the Blues, we would struggle to see past a repeat outcome. But, we wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams scoring.
