Mackenzie Dern (12-3) is one of the best grapplers in women’s MMA in 2023. She’s the daughter of Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Wellington “Megaton” Dias who had an impressive grappling career before switching to MMA.
Her switch to the world of mixed martial arts happened in 2016, but three years later, she went on a hiatus due to pregnancy. Then, upon returning, Dern really switched up a gear, winning four fights in a row. Three of those won her the Performance of the Night bonus, and each time, she won by submission.
That’s the method she’ll probably go for on Saturday when meeting Angela Hill in the Octagon. The reason is that her opponent just isn’t great when it comes to grappling/wrestling. However, Hill is a real kickboxing expert.
She’s a great striker who lands almost 6 significant strikes per minute in the UFC, and who’s won one-third of his victories by KO/TKO. The big question is whether she can knock Dern out on Saturday.
