Los Angeles FC start their 2023 MLS campaign in the second week of the season. They were supposed to play their city rivals Galaxy in El Trafico last weekend, but the game was postponed for bad weather. As a result, LAFC’s first game of the season is against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Before Betting on Los Angeles FC vs Portland Timbers

LAFC aren’t as strong as they were during their MLS Cup-winning season. The man who practically saved their guts in the 2022 MLS Cup Final – Gareth Bale – has decided to retire from professional soccer.

On top of that, their scoring leader in 2022 – Cristian “Chicho” Arango – decided to move to the Mexican powerhouse Pachuca.

They did make a few interesting signings, including ex-Everton and Leicester goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, and former St. Etienne forward Denis Bouanga. However, we think the newcomers will take some time to click with other LAFC players.

This, however, doesn’t mean the champions are going to struggle against the Portland Timbers. They are the better team, and they’re playing on their turf. At home, LAFC haven’t won only five games in the last 12 months.

Even though we don’t think Los Angeles FC will blow out the Portland Timbers, we do think they’re going to win on Saturday. We also think there will be plenty of goals on both ends, which is why “over 2.5” looks like a very good bet.

Pick: LAFC to win & over 2.5 goals
