There will be a fascinating final round of fixtures in Group E at the World Cup, as all four teams can still make it through to the next round. However, the top two in the standings will clash in the pick of the games, as Spain can secure top spot in the group with a victory.

Before Betting On Japan vs Spain

Spain will come into this final fixture in Group E aware that their fate is in their own hands. The Spanish currently sit top of the Group E standings after picking up a win and a draw in their opening two fixtures. They were denied maximum points after two games in their previous fixture, as Germany struck back late to claim a 1-1 draw.

However, it is worth considering Spain’s record in the final round of fixtures at the World Cup. The Spanish have claimed victories in eight of their previous nine final group stage fixtures, with the only exception to that rule coming four years ago as they were held by Morocco. Regardless, Spain is now unbeaten in their previous seven World Cup fixtures, winning three times during that period. They have only been on a longer winning run on one previous occasion.

There is a feeling that Japan may have missed their perfect opportunity to seize control of Group E. Japan were excellent winners against Germany in their opening fixture, but they were shocked by Costa Rica in their second outing, losing 1-0.

That defeat means that Japan have now lost three of their previous four fixtures at the World Cup. That is more defeats than they had suffered in their previous nine games at the competition. In this fixture, they will be looking to avoid going two games without scoring for the first time since 1998.

Group E has been very entertaining since the first ball was kicked, and the fact that all four nations could yet qualify only raises the intrigue. However, Japan’s best opportunity to reach the round of 16 has already passed them by, and it is very hard to see past a Spain win. The Spanish have never lost in five previous World Cup fixtures against Asian opposition, and they were 1-0 winners in their only meeting with Japan.
