Jalen Ramsey has requested a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars after getting into a heated altercation with head coach Doug Marrone.

Jalen Ramsey and Maronne Go at Each Other

After an ugly sideline altercation, star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has requested a trade. The Jacksonville Jaguars season is quickly spiralling out of control. In week 1 they lost their new QB Nick Foles for the season. Whatever hopes they had probably went down with Foles’ broken collarbone. A bad situation seems to have gotten worse with this latest incident.

In terms of talent, Jalen Ramsey is probably the best player on this roster. He is one of the only true shutdown corners in the NFL. Many around the league view Ramsey as the best player at his position. He is also a guy who does not back down from a fight. In that sense the way Doug Marrone chose to handle the situation was a bit odd.

Why Were They Fighting?

Apparently the reason the argument started was because Maronne did not throw a challenge flag on a completion to DeAndre Hopkins. That seems like an over the top reaction by both parties if that’s the case. The more likely scenario is that this is a continuation of a problem that’s been brewing all summer long.

It started when Ramsey did not show up for a voluntary workout. According to reports Ramsey did not return any of Marrone’s calls or texts concerning his absence. Ramsey claims it was a misunderstanding. He says that Marrone was calling the wrong number. Then there’s Ramsey’s frustration at how’s he’s being used. If there’s one thing we know about Ramsey, he will not hesitate to voice his displeasure at coaching decisions. The relationship between these two men seems to have been strained from the start.

The Jaguars are Listening to Offers

It looks like the Jaguars might be willing to let Ramsey go. From their point of view, the move makes sense if they can get a first round pick. Nobody wants to lose a shutdown corner but looking at the Jags current situation, it might be the best move. For one he is a corner and although he might be the best at what he does, he isn’t enough to win them a Super Bowl.

There’s also his contract situation to consider. If anyone was wondering how much Ramsey wants, he answered that question by showing up to camp in a Brinks truck.

In light of that, do the Jags really want to commit big money to a position that can’t win get closer to a Super Bowl?

This Looks Like the End of the Ramsey Era in Jacksonville

Regardless of how this plays out, it is highly unlikely that Jalen Ramsey will be on the team past this year. If they don’t trade him, they risk keeping a disgruntled player who is also one of the most outspoken in the league. He will not bite his tongue for anyone and that can make things much worse.  Another thing is if they keep him and don’t get rid of Doug Marrone, even the biggest optimist has to see that they will never get along. It looks like the end of the Jalen Ramsey era in Jacksonville.
