The Champions League continues this week, with eight more teams kicking off their round of 16 campaigns. Inter Milan may have fallen short in their goal to win the Serie A title this term, but they will be heavily favored to reach the next round of the Champions League over FC Porto.

Before Betting On Inter Milan vs Porto

It has been a fine campaign in Europe for Inter Milan to this point, as they successfully managed to make it out of the group stage. They finished second in Group C, but they were a huge eight points behind the group-topping Bayern Munich. Still, a lot of confidence would have been taken from the fact that they finished above Barcelona.

Inter’s only two defeats in the group stage came against Bayern Munich, but they scored an impressive ten goals in the six games that they played. The Italian side also comes into this game having won each of their previous two home fixtures in the competition. They will be looking to win three in a row at the San Siro for the first time since between December 2009 and November 2010.

Porto will have the added advantage of playing the second leg at home, as they topped Group B in fine fashion. The Portuguese side picked up 12 points from the six games that they played. Overall, they won four of the six games that they played, and were the highest scorers in the group with 12 efforts recorded.

Porto has won each of their previous two games on the road, scoring seven in the process. Their record against Italian opposition is also strong, as Porto has lost just once in their previous seven matches against teams from the nation. That defeat was suffered in the second leg of the round of 16 stage in the 2020-21 campaign, losing 3-2 against Juventus.

This opening leg will be huge for Inter Milan, as they will need to pick up a win to keep their hopes of progression alive. We could see them achieving that, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams find the net.
