Portugal vs Germany Preview

Portugal Hoping To Book Spot In Next Round

The Portuguese will be slightly more relaxed coming into this soccer game on Saturday, as their victory on the opening night has put them into a strong position of going through to the next round. They needed to remain patient in their opening game against Hungary, as they didn’t take the lead until the 85th minute. However, after that opener, they were able to pull ahead against the minnows.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two late goals to make the result look more comfortable than it was, but the result does illustrate that Portugal are still a force to be reckoned with in the competition this summer. It will be more interesting to see how Portugal approach this game, as they finish the group with a fixture against France. It could be argued that Portugal may see the draw in this game as a positive result.

Germany Looking To Bounce Back

Germany will need to respond in front of their fans in this second group game, as they were slightly disappointing in their opener against France. The Germans failed to create many clear goalscoring opportunities in the game, and it looked more as though France could have scored more if they wanted to. However, the French were more than happy to sit behind the ball and hit Germany on the counter.

That was something that they managed to do twice, but both goals were disallowed due to players being offside. Confidence in the national team may be at an all time low coming into this fixture, but a positive result would certainly turn the tide back in their favour. Germany may also see a draw as a decent result, as they close the group stages with a fixture against Hungary. They would be pleased to go into that game knowing that a win would put them through.

Portugal vs Germany Recent Meetings

Germany have a strong record against France, as they have won ten of the 18 meetings between the nations. They are currently on a four-game winning streak against Portugal, with their last win coming back in 2014. Portugal’s last win against Germany was in 2000, but that was their only win since 1985.

Portugal vs Germany Prediction

This will be another exciting match up at the EUROs, as two huge nations square off. However, we don’t expect it to be as fast-paced as the Germany vs France game was, as both teams will be looking ahead to the games they have coming up. Therefore, we could see both nations being happy to take a point.
