We wrote yesterday about Chelsea’s plans for the upcoming summer, mentioning several names who are in the Blues’ notebook. However, something pretty unexpected happened. The English media started reporting this afternoon that Frank Lampard’s team started pursuing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang a Perfect Fit for the Blues

Arsenal’s striker is unhappy for quite some time at Emirates, and he wants to leave the club. The Gunners are playing below every expectation, and the Gabonese striker isn’t willing to waste any of his time in the team who is not able to compete for trophies.

It is something Chelsea might use. Although Blues weren’t anywhere near silverware this season, they have a very talented team, filled with unreal potential, and it is very likely that they explode over the next couple of seasons.

Lampard has several youngsters at his disposal, all of them a part of Chelsea’s youth academy, and the teams who ruled the European and domestic competitions.

As for Aubameyang, he would be a perfect fit alongside Tammy Abraham, in a highly offensive-minded formation, which became a trademark of Chelsea since Lampard sat on the bench. With him upfront, the team would add one more dimension, opening up more space for Abraham, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, and other players.

If by any chance, Roman Abramovich manages to buy Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund or Moussa Dembele from Lyon, the Blues would become an immediate contender, regardless of another opinion.

Arsenal and Chelsea already have solid cooperation, with the teams having a few transfers between themselves in recent history. For example, David Luiz went from Chelsea to Arsenal, while Olivier Giroud headed the other way around. So this transfer wouldn’t be an odd thing to see, despite a massive rivalry.

Aubameyang is going to be one of the top priorities of the Blues in this transfer window. The reason for that is his versatility. As we said, Chelsea is after Sancho and Dembele, and if they fail to make a deal with either one of them, Aubameyang would be a replacement. That practically means that if the club lands pacey striker, they could be relaxed while chasing the two above-mentioned guys.

Arsenal’s Tough Situation

Aubameyang already declared that he isn’t keen on staying in the club. On the other side, he has one more year on the contract, and if Gunners don’t sell him now, they are probably going to end up without any transfer fee at the time of his departure from Emirates.

According to the sources from the English media, Arsenal would be pleased with $50 million right now. The board is aware of the negative circumstances and is ready to make a compromise.

We might even see Chelsea sending one of its players to the other part of London, and the first one in the combination would be Michy Batshuayi, who didn’t meet the expectations at Stamford. On the other side, Arsenal needs a striker, and he might be the one who would partially fill in the gap after Aubameyang’s transfer.
