The Filly Triple Crown continues this weekend, as the Black Eyed Susan Stakes takes center stake at Pimlico on Friday. The Black Eyed Susan Stakes is a Grade 2 affair, which is run over 1 1/8 miles. A purse of $250,000 has been set for the race this weekend, which will see fillies aged three compete.

Before Betting On Black Eyed Susan Stakes 2023

The Black Eyed Susan Stakes forms the second leg of the Filly Triple Crown. Last year, the race was won by Interstatedaydream for trainer Brad Cox, while other recent winners include Point of Honor and Army Wife. The most successful trainers in the history of the race are Todd Pletcher and D. Wayne Lukas, who have both landed victories on four separate occasions.

There is a prominent figure in the betting this weekend, as Bob Baffert’s Faiza is considered by many as the standout choice. The filly has won on all five career starts, including in Grade 1 company as a two-year-old last year. She returned to the track with success in the G3 Las Vergenes Stakes, before adding the G3 Santa Ysabel and G2 Santa Anita Oaks in March and April, respectively.

Pletcher’s record in this race is hard to ignore, and he will be represented by Miracle. The filly will be the ride of Irad Ortiz, but she was won just once from six career starts. She was extremely disappointing on her previous outing, as she could only finish fifth in the G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks. A response will be needed this weekend.

Brad Cox’s Merlazza looks the serious danger to Faiza this weekend. She has won three from four career starts, with all efforts coming this year. However, she does have something to prove on figures after landing the Valley of the Vapors Stakes with a low speed rating of 72 last time out.

Faiza certainly looks the best of these fillies in the Black Eyed Susan Stakes, and it’s hard to merit taking her on at the prices available. An outsider that could run well is Hoosier Philly. The Thomas Amoss runner was last seen finishing fourth in the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks, but she has back class after winning the G2 Golden Rod Stakes last year with a speed rating of 95.
