A huge rivalry game will take place on the campus of Texas Tech University on Wednesday. The Texas Longhorns are on the road at the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Longhorns, led by head coach Shaka Smart have won back to back games, and are 14-7 on the season. The Longhorns are 4-4 in Big 12 play, and a road win here would springboard them a long ways towards the NCAA tournament.

The Red Raiders of Texas Tech are one of three teams at 5-3 in the Big 12 – which is two games behind the front running Kansas Jayhawks. Overall, the Red Raiders are 17-4 on the season. Texas Tech is coming off a win over South Carolina on the road. Coming into this game, the the Red Raiders of Texas Tech are -7 over the Longhorns of Texas in Big 12 Basketball on Wednesday.

Chris Beard has done an outstanding job as the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Red Raiders are not awesome offensively, with just over 76 points per game, but the defense has been outstanding. The defense for Texas Tech is allowing just over 62 points per game, which is 6th in the nation.

Keenan Evans has turned to one of the top players in all of college basketball. In the win over South Carolina, Evans because the second Red Raider in program history to win 3 Big 12 Conference player of the week awards. The guard is scoring more than 17 points per game. The other scorers for Texas Tech – Jarrett Culver and Zhaire Smith, combining for nearly 21 per game.

Smart’s Longhorns Seeking Third Straight

The Texas Longhorns are coming off back to back wins over Iowa State and Ole Miss. The last loss for the Longhorns came on the road at West Virginia. The Longhorns have Oklahoma, Kansas State and TCU coming up, so this is a huge stretch for Shaka Smart and his Texas basketball team.

The Longhorns are scoring 72.6 points per game, and allowing 66.3. The Longhorns are having a tough time passing the basketball, as they are near the bottom of all college basketball teams with 11.7 assists per game. The top scorer for Texas this season has been Dylan Oswetkowski with 14.5 points per game. Mohamed Bamba and Kerwin Roach are combining for nearly 25 per game for the Longhorns as well.

Red Raiders Win at Home

This should be a well played, defensive style of basketball. Both teams are looking to grind the game out, and win the basketball in a lower scoring basketball game. But, when push comes to shove, the Red Raiders are a much better offensive team than the Texas Longhorns. The best player on the court will likely make the biggest difference in this game.
